Torikomachi
A moment to unwind in the city.
Explore Torikomachi’s chicken dishes, from tsukune with egg yolk and karaage with a sweet-and-savoury sauce to chicken sashimi. There is also sake from Nara to pair with yakitori, as well as hot-pot options.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Some diners say they want to try every kind of tsukune at Torikomachi, and the tsukune topped with egg yolk is singled out as a memorable choice. If you come for the skewers, consider ordering the karaage too: it’s another way to enjoy chicken beyond the grill. The menu describes the fried chicken as coated in a sweet-and-savoury sauce, and sweet-and-savoury fried chicken wings make a good accompaniment to drinks.
Chicken sashimi is listed as available in limited quantities, and some diners recommend it as a dish you can’t get elsewhere. If it appeals, check when ordering whether it is available. For skewers, individual portions of local chicken include soliles, salted upper-thigh meat and chicken breast grilled with miso sauce, offering a choice of cuts and seasonings.
There are drinks to match the chicken dishes, including a set that lets you sample 3 varieties of sake from Nara in small pours, and a tasting set with 90cc servings. For an evening centred on hot pot rather than skewers, consider the chicken meatball hot pot or the local-chicken hot pot.
